Originally the name in 1957 was GE300, but Century was chosen when the sofa and chair series was relaunched in 2000, i.e. 40 years after Wegner designed them. Hans J. Wegner's goal with the series was to create a sofa that was sufficiently neutral in expression that it could be used with all of his many armchairs.

Century is designed with loose cushions in an over-upholstered frame with high ends, and the legs are either conical wooden legs in oak, walnut or steel legs with a marked foot. The design is austere, and the dimensions and inclinations of the seats are, as usual, chosen with great care by Wegner.
