Wittmann and Johannes Spalt enjoyed a friendly and exceptionally productive collaboration spanning decades, which had a lasting and trailblazing impact on the company. 1960 saw the creation of Spalt’s “3/4” furniture under his first project with Wittmann, which can be seen as a significant reference work for his approach. It comprised an armchair, a footstool and a matching side table.
The name is derived from the nickname of Working Group 4 – founded in 1950 by Spalt and his fellow architects Friedrich Kurrent, Wilhelm Holzbauer and Otto Leitner. After Leitner's departure, a trio remained that was charmingly called "the 3/4-ers". As a designer, Spalt aimed for “intelligent furniture that fosters good design for living”. Wittmann is using the new edition of the 3/4 furniture to give this philosophy enduring impact.
