In 1954, Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel began a collaboration with the company Poul Kold Savværk in Kerteminde. This collaboration lasted for many years and resulted in a long line of tables, chairs, sideboards, lounge and children's furniture, and not least the Ring Chair. The collaboration with Kold Savværk, where the furniture was manufactured more industrially than the working methods of the master carpenters allowed, led Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel to cultivate details in the furniture.
The living room furniture was to create a space for the person sitting - the circle surrounds the person and at the same time creates the possibility of different sitting positions. In order to reduce transport costs, the chair was originally designed so that it could be packed flat. The seat, armrests and legs could be separated. This is no longer done; now it is delivered assembled.
