Tonietta
Tonietta chair is an eloquent example of product born from a close and fertile collaboration between firm and designer.
Started in 1981 the chair’s project ended in 1985 following constant engineering research necessarily undertaken to exploit a technology, the one of aluminium die casting, that - expensive - had so far been little used in the manufacturing of a domestic chair.

BRAND HIGHLIGHT
When Aurelio Zanotta opened the doors to his eponymous label in 1954, its initial focus was on the production of sofas and armchairs which, at the time, were overwhelmingly the domain of upholstery workshops. But Zanotta’s vision far exceeded the largely utilitarian scope of local upholsterers. Beyond its surface functionality, he recognizedin furniture design a new form of cultural expression—a venerable creative outlet worthy of the same respect afforded to traditional artistic exploits like painting and sculpture.

DESIGNED BY
Enzo Mari
Born in Novara in 1932 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. After completing his studies, he devoted himself immediately to the nascent world of industrial design and to an intense artistic activity. One of the traits of Mari's work, internationally renowned as some of the best Italian design, is the unending quest for, and experimentation with, new product forms and meanings. Sometimes he even moved consciously outside the mainstream of traditional industrial design.
