Founded by South African Peter Van Der Post, Indigenous crafts a unique collection of architectural pots and planters; sculptural pieces of outdoor art that have the power to transform gardens, rooftops and terraces.
Each one of Indigenous’ creations is meticulously crafted – smooth, clean lines are drawn from raw, honest materials of hardwood, cork and concrete. A recognisable aesthetic runs through each collection created by Indigenous. Designs are strikingly pared-back and restrained, with bold, simple silhouettes contrasting against tactility and earthiness.
Indigenous’ collections are a collaborative effort. A hand-picked group of ceramicists, artists, architects and landscape designers have each contributed. Industrial designer Haldane Martin’s ‘Tuber’ design draws on furniture-making techniques, while award-winning Laurie Wiid van Heerden celebrated the ‘anchoring presence’ of trees in his collection, ‘Soma’.
Underpinned by a deep knowledge of both landscape design and plant care and maintenance, Indigenous’ planters are not only aesthetically uplifting, they are also crafted to be lightweight and easily transportable, with removable linings and water reservoirs to ensure they function beautifully too.
