I’m continuing my pursuit of the great outdoors at home with the beautiful terrace of our Belgrave project. Against a backdrop of rich greenery nestles an enticing dining space and a laid-back seating area to entertain friends and family. We are loving the texture and warmth that all-weather rugs bring to outdoor spaces. Under the warm glow of the Disc lamps designed by Piet Boon for Heatsail, our clients will be able to start their summer early. The green giants of course, are the incredible Gozney pizza oven and the Green Egg BBQ. Such fun awaits. We’ve only made it ten days into January and I’m already dreaming of the colourful and sunshine- filled days of summer ahead. Our Belgrave clients have much to look forward to as well. For their orangery, they expressed a simple wish – a space that felt vibrant and inviting all-year round. To bring this vision to life, we wove a red thread using our client’s artwork and global wanderings. This room perfectly blends the comfort of home with wonder and joy of the outdoors, from the enveloping Giorgetti Arabella chairs and Maharaja sofa to the tactile wall art and artefacts from across the globe. With a palette of colourful teals, oranges, and reds, we brought this welcoming space to life. A slice of rich colour to start the weekend for us. I’m happy to share this sneak peek of our Belgrave Project’s orangery that features one of my favourite armchairs. With its ocean-like waves, the Arabella Chair from Italian virtuosos Giorgetti is a contemporary design classic. Like the design itself, the story behind its name is also beautifully romantic – it’s named after the founder’s wife. Covered in a vibrant Dedar velvet, it offers sumptuous comfort and envelopment. The final touch in this charming scene is provided by the elegant yet intriguing cushion clad in Gastón y Daniela’s Matsuyama velvet. Makes it hard not to fall in love. With a new year comes new possibilities for creativity and curiosity. This said, Pantone’s colour of the year did throw us slightly. Very Peri, a joy-filled periwinkle is certainly an optimistic take on the times we are in now. The colour is suggestive of an ever-adapting, digital and creative space that looks to innovate. Our take on this dynamic age and its expression is funnily enough found in the past. Our Coombe Hill Mansion project created a fun family home, fizzing with colour and energy, underpinned by a coherent and creative architectural framework. One of the largest – and certainly the most fun parts - of this project was creating a swimming pool cinema scape for the client who wanted to screen the ocean as he swam laps. With a white wall as the ‘screen’ it was entirely concealed until the projector kicked in. The purple hues in the lighting scheme helped energise this space, drawing the whole family into its periwinkle depths for some incredible pool parties. Just before we head back into the studio and the showrooms open their doors again, we are going to sink into the sofa and watch just a little more TV. At this project in Belgravia, our clients have the luxury of a floor dedicated to entertaining, and the TV snug doesn’t disappoint. The inky-blue backdrop is the perfect night sky to help our clients escape the every day and have some fun. Into it we injected one of their most zesty artworks and took inspiration from its acidic colours to make this snug pop. Whether it's soaking in the comfort of the Flexform Mood sofa or enjoying a nightcap from the Rue Ipanema armchair, this is a room that envelops and excites. All of my good intentions for January would go out the window if this bar were in my basement. Thank goodness it belongs to our Belgrave client who may have a smidge more willpower. The basement floor at Belgrave was already dedicated to entertaining when our clients moved in. The deep inky blue panelling and walls were the perfect backdrop for the bar that we designed for them – one beautifully executed by joinery specialists Realm. The functional sculpture perfectly framed by the roof light is by the fantastically talented Gabriel Scott, as are the ever-elegant Bardot bar stools. The Harlow pendant is one of our all-time favourite lighting pieces. It reminds me simultaneously of dried flowers, shooting stars and very expensive jewellery. It’s the showstopper that makes this inviting bar even more alluring. Anyone for a negroni? Perhaps we could be persuaded to do dry February … @gabrielscott
