Another new addition to the Tollgard showroom. Tom Fereday is fascinated by the tension that lies between natural materials and contemporary design and manufacture, developing unique designs that originate from an intrinsic inquiry into the role of objects today.

Bocci 28 Table Lamp

Bocci 28 Table Lamp

The 28 Table Light originated from a fabrication process that manipulates both the temperature and the direction of air flow into blown glass. The result is a slightly distorted sphere that houses an opaque orb of light that emits a gentle yet captivating glow. Founded by Omer Arbel in 2005, Bocci has become more than just a maker of beautiful glass luminaires. It brings together architecture, sculpture, invention, and design as each piece artistically and poetically explores the medium of light.

The Impossible. Made Possible.
Introducing The Wave Collection

GRAVITY. A defiant force of nature, driving objects of mass together. This natural phenomenon serves as the inspiration behind Tollgard’s first collection of functional sculptures for The Refined Workshop. Exploring the gravitational attraction of objects around us, designers Staffan Tollgård and Filippo Castellani were moved to reinterpret convention and push the limits of material traditions.

Discover the impossible in person at The May Fair Hotel

Following a successful preview of the artist proof console in Slovenian stone at FOCUS/21, the Wave Collection has officially launched. A curated exhibition of first edition pieces from the collection takes pride in place in the expansive windows of The May Fair Hotel, London.

Wednesday 13th – Friday 5th November
The May Fair Hotel
Stratton Street, Mayfair, London W1J 8LT
10 am – 6 pm

Please drop by at your earliest convenience — we would be happy to welcome you. For sales enquiries, please contact erik@tollgard.com

A juxtaposition of soft curves and inherent strength, The Wave Collection highlights the importance of every surface within a design. These masterpieces bring intrigue to an otherwise overlooked surface – the underside of the tabletop – and are as much about what is absent as what is present. Seamlessly slotting together, the top gently rests on a graduated elliptical base. This collection achieves extraordinary complexity with apparent simplicity.

Beneath the surface of the design lies another story of history and power expressed in the stone itself. Grand Antique, a monochromatic beauty, rich in contrast and character, roots the provenance of these pieces back to the ancient Romans. Formed over millions of years in the valley of the River Lez, in the Ariege region of France, this is the most precious marble in the Pyrenees. From the Roman to the Byzantine Empires, this quarry and its coveted stone have adorned palaces through the centuries.

The Wave Console

The Wave console table expresses an elegant form, impeccably carved into being with one of the most prized natural stones in the world. A masterly combination of great design, authentic craftsmanship and innovative engineering.

The Wave Console
The Wave Bench

The Wave bench sits at the nexus of functional sculpture, inviting physical engagement with a piece of art engineered from one of the most striking and fascinating natural stones in the world.

Never has the outdoor room been so important.

The first steps of the path out of lockdown are straight into the garden: into al-fresco lunches, drinks by the fire-side, cozy dinners under some twinkling lights. At Tollgard we have ten garden heroes to help make your garden sing.

Meridiani’s Joi Open Air Dining Table & Tai Dining Chairs

Meridiani’s Open Air dining table collection has a beautiful iroko solid wood frame and concrete top: materials made for the outdoors. The outdoor dining tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with clean lines and a modern aesthetic. The wooden base and soft grey finish ensure these tables can blend organically into any outdoor living space.

The Tai Open Air Dining Chairs are the perfect pairing for the Joi Open Air Dining Table. The chairs are expertly crafted with polypropylene rope and supported by a painted aluminium frame. The minimalist colour scheme incorporates Chalk, Petrol, Elephant and Black: simple and sophisticated.

As a Studio, one of the larger gardens we’ve been let loose in is set in the centre of Amman, Jordan. The villa, conceived by Lebanese architect Raed Abimilla, is a striking contemporary monolith that uses local materials in unexpected formats. We created zones to dine, relax and entertain in the grounds, choosing pieces from our favourite suppliers to be true to the creative DNA of the interiors.

The softly woven backs of the Meridiani chairs are inviting yet robust. Meridiania are famous for the quality and breadth of their fabric choice, and their exterior offering lives up to this. A mix of benches and armchairs keep the arrangement laid back yet elegant. The long concrete table is sculptural enough to look beautiful even when not set for an alfresco lunch.

Heatsail by Piet Boon

Piet Boon’s outdoor heater, Heatsail, is a sophisticated addition to any outdoor space. This unique product combines a lamp with an integrated heating system, increasing the comfort of outdoor living and extending the outdoor season.”
— Philip Howe, Tollgard Chelsea Harbour

Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge

The Flat High chaise lounge is a stunning designer piece that combines thermo-lacquered aluminium sections in white, sand, anthracite and bronze with a 100% recyclable polyethylene sheet top. Gandia Blasco’s range of muted colours and textures ensures timeless practicality.

For contemporary settings we often turn to manufacturer Gandia Blasco. They are famous for their clean lines and crisp detailing. We tend to use a metal finish to add a little warmth to the mix.

We selected Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge for our Quinta do Lago Villa project, as the view was so spectacular, we wanted to keep the outdoor arrangement very clean.

We discovered early in the design journey that our clients had a love of art and sculpture, and an appreciation of furniture as crafted, designed pieces. We wanted to carry this vision into the outdoor space, which is why Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge was the perfect choice for this contemporary project. View the project here.

SOMA by Indigenus

No outdoor space is complete without Indigenus’ SOMA planter. Made in South Africa with vernacular materials, their unique rounded sculptural style make these planters a special addition to any outdoor or indoor space – whether filled with plants or not!

Byarums Bruk’s Waterloo Sofa

It is not often that you can reconfigure your sofa to choose your view. Byarums Bruk’s Waterloo Sofa makes this possible. With two fronts, you “can choose to turn towards the path or the view”. – Jesper Ståhl & Karl Malmvall, Byarums Bruk

"Our curation of residential spaces encourages us to see exterior spaces as extensions of these liveable, comfortable spaces in which to relax, connect with family and find things to do together. The choice of furniture, lighting and accessories is key to creating a view from the interior that draws the eye and soul outside.”
Monique TollgårdHead of Interior Design
Patio outdoor rug by Limited Edition

Outdoor rugs are growing in popularity and Limited Edition’s “Patio” version, has quickly become one of the cornerstones of its collection. This durable rug, available in a variety of neutral hues, can be used in a range of settings, as it comes with or without accent lines.

The Open Kitchen Range by Röshults

With outdoor kitchens quickly becoming the new “must have” summer accessory, Roshults offers maximum flexibility with its modular full service outdoor kitchen.

Ercole fire pit by AK47

AK47’s Ercole’s wood-burning decorative fire pit has a steel structural component and concrete element making this a distinctive focal point in any outdoor space.

The LARS sofa and coffee table by Piet Boon

Piet Boon’s LARS sofa combines comfort and practicality. Its robust and generously proportioned frame and lush cushions are paired with the clean lines of the LARS coffee table for effortless exterior elegance.

The Hoist outdoor lights by RBW

Hoist illuminates any outdoor living space perfectly. The shade is available in a variety of colours and diameters and can be wall-mounted. Extending Spring and Summer nights has never been easier.

Piet Boon in Tollgard Chelsea Harbour

We love the way the Piet Boon outdoor room in Tollgard Chelsea Harbour is coming together. The lounge area showcases the LARS series of sofa, coffee table and armchair. The dining table is the ANNE and is paired with the NIEKE dining chairs. Our Indigenus planters add some functional sculpture to this outdoor haven and are well-worth seeing in person. Come over to the green side!

I am a self-confessed generalist — I think it’s one of the reasons I love being an entrepreneur. This means I love to work with specialists. People who are obsessed with one way of doing something; one material; one aesthetic.

We are so proud to bring Van Rossum into our stable of brands at Tollgard. Their way of working with natural oak allows this noble, understated material to sing. In a raw, less polished way that appeals to my Swedish sense of lagom (another story for another time). Welcome Van Rossum and we are so pleased to showcase your beautiful pieces in the Chelsea Harbour Showroom from the 12th April when we safely reopen.

— Philip Howe, Showroom Sales & Business Development

At Tollgard Studio, we’ve been designing ‘working from home’ (WFH) into family life for as long as we can remember – long before Covid-19! Whether this means homework for the kids, or dedicated spaces for our clients to work from.

An essential item on the WFH checklist is a good sturdy desk. One of the reasons we love this Skram Wishbone desk is that it’s beautiful, even when it’s not working. Given how much time we are spending at home at the moment, this is a very important feature for any addition to our homes.

In the age of organic shapes and hand-blown glass their geometric gems cannot fail to attract attention.

I first met founders (and brothers-in-law) Gabriel and Scott in New York around 10 years ago. Their settings look almost like large-scale jewellery — an amazing contrast to the organic softness that we have become used to seeing.

A Few of My Favourites

Gabriel Scott Lighting Luna Series with Luna Chandelier in situ image
The Luna Series

Taking inspiration from, and giving gentle reference to, the moon, the aptly named Luna series is a collection that comprises of sculptural forms, coloured blown glass and refracted light. The stunning effect created as a result, emits a soft and diffused glow, reminiscent of the glow that radiates like a halo around the moon on a dark night. The lighting systems in this series are highly customisable, stacking and combining a range of different coloured glass additions and then assembling in either a vertical or horizontal suspension.

Gabriel Scott Lighting Myriad Series with Myriad Chandelier 7 Vertical in situ image
The Myriad Series

Reminiscent of blossoming trees, the Myriad series combines a soft and natural glow, with engineered and sharp precision. The series juxtaposes angular arms and pivoting joints of the metal frame with the diffused, warm luminosity of its double-blown glass tips. The series highlights the relationship between craftsmanship and engineering and the striking outcome that can be achieved, as a result.

The Harlow Series

The Harlow series radiates glamour and refinement through its use of sparkling prisms, jewel-esque glass and metal frame encasing. Available in wall scone, chandelier and pendant, the series provides luxury and elegance suitable for a variety of projects and lighting requirements. From the understated wall scone to the showstopper chandelier, we love this series for its combination of sculptural presence and delicate aesthetic considerations, like treasures in a jewellery box.

Gabriel Scott Logo

Across the peaceful ocean, a thirty-thousand square-foot studio in Montreal’s historic Garment District used to house two visionary founders, Gabriel Kakon and Scott Richler. A tour-de-force concoction of architecture, industrial design, and jewellery-making — this incredible medley of skillsets is evident in each of their designs. From the structural composition of a frame, to the details of how a piece is built; from the elegant, geometric, crystalline styling of a hanging pendant to the colour of the hand-blown glass: these are heirloom pieces to cherish. The next chapter of the company sees two become one, with the company now in the sole hands of Scott.

Gabriel Scott Lighting Welles Series Welles Double Blown Glass Pendant in white, Smoked Grey and California Pink Finishing in situ image
The Welles Pendant

Singular pendants, but by no means lacking in design and engineering, these individually hung lights embody a complex design process. Each light features a coloured glass blown inside a clear glass envelope, which allows for a soft diffusion of filtered light to pass through its translucent aspects. The result is that of a sparkling gem, which can be suspended on its own or in a cluster with other pendants, to create a glistening display. Available in smoked black, alabaster white and California pink glass, with a range of hardware colours, the Welles pendant allows for infinite possibilities.

The Welles Sconce

The Welles Double Blown Glass sconce is a twist on the pendant in the same series. Fitted to the wall, this polygonal shape features polished, crisp edges and uses the double blown glass technique, to achieve a layered and clever method for diffusing light. Available in a selection of coloured glass and hardware colours.

As partners in life and work, Monique and I know that it’s important to celebrate the milestones. To stop and smell the roses along the way. Otherwise we’re in danger of rushing from project to project, from year to year, from decade to decade without appreciating the incredible journey along the way.

Valentine’s Day reminded us of the importance of celebrations, of the importance of milestones. So we started thinking about anniversaries, and how we could help celebrate them with some very, very beautiful things that could tell the story of a journey of design, love and a shared passion for beautiful things.
