A celebration at the DRIVEN x DESIGN London Design Awards!

The gold goes to Dojo, Interior Design, Co-Working and Studio Space. Our thanks go to the judges, our collaborators BDG Architecture +  Design and the entire Tollgard team – having worked together to create a hybrid space that connected the essence of home with the functionality of the office.

A truly flexible workplace, the Dojo offices connect the essence of home with the functionality of the office. Situated in London’s Brunel Building, the founders expressed that they wanted the best of both worlds – a flexible, professional workspace that reflected the start-up spirit of the business. With no room for cute, this was a project rooted in balancing structure with chaos.

We were honoured to collaborate with workplace and office design specialists, BDG architecture + design to create this hybrid space which met our clients’ need for spaces for casual collisions and cross-functional working. With 3000 sqm. across two floors, there are several places for people to come together – including open meeting tables, booth seating and meeting rooms – as well as a central hub that acts as the epicentre of the two floors.

Collected within these pages are some of the most dedicated, passionate and talented makers working in the world of furniture today. Edition 2 brings even more new and exciting additions.

Before furniture was mass-produced, the hand of the maker was always visible. At Tollgard we have always been fascinated by stories —by the artists and craftspeople behind the pieces and brands. Our search to bring them together has been going on for more than fifteen years. The red thread —the creative DNA —that binds these makers from more than a dozen countries is the value they place on how things are made, the questions of living that they answer, and the honesty of their ingredients. The result: pieces that engage and endure. Stories that intrigue.

The celebration of the handmade across all corners of the globe has utterly captivated us. Beautifully functional design and the hand-working of metal, leather and wood have created its own language reminiscent of the principles of mid-century modern: less is more, honesty in manufacturing techniques and truth to materials. From Ceccotti Collezioni, Overgaard & Dyrman and Van Rossum on our European shores; to the East Coast heroes found at BassamFellows, Token, Skram, Juniper and RBW; to the South African artisans at Indigenus and Okha – we see a richness and a rawness that makes it hard to look away.

We are excited to announce that the Ekero side table has been given design icon status at this year’s Livingetc Style Awards. A winner of the occasional furniture category, this classically timeless side table features an elegant marble base and smooth walnut top, two elements in perfect balance with each other.

The design partnership between Porada and Tollgard began with a shared love of great furniture design and a love of functional sculpture. As they approach each new collection, Staffan Tollgård & Filippo Castellani explore the balance of form and function within each piece, striving to create objects that capture the imagination.

The first steps of the path out of lockdown are straight into the garden: into al-fresco lunches, drinks by the fire-side, cozy dinners under some twinkling lights. At Tollgard we have ten garden heroes to help make your garden sing.

Meridiani’s Joi Open Air Dining Table & Tai Dining Chairs

Meridiani’s Open Air dining table collection has a beautiful iroko solid wood frame and concrete top: materials made for the outdoors. The outdoor dining tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with clean lines and a modern aesthetic. The wooden base and soft grey finish ensure these tables can blend organically into any outdoor living space.

The Tai Open Air Dining Chairs are the perfect pairing for the Joi Open Air Dining Table. The chairs are expertly crafted with polypropylene rope and supported by a painted aluminium frame. The minimalist colour scheme incorporates Chalk, Petrol, Elephant and Black: simple and sophisticated.

As a Studio, one of the larger gardens we’ve been let loose in is set in the centre of Amman, Jordan. The villa, conceived by Lebanese architect Raed Abimilla, is a striking contemporary monolith that uses local materials in unexpected formats. We created zones to dine, relax and entertain in the grounds, choosing pieces from our favourite suppliers to be true to the creative DNA of the interiors.

The softly woven backs of the Meridiani chairs are inviting yet robust. Meridiania are famous for the quality and breadth of their fabric choice, and their exterior offering lives up to this. A mix of benches and armchairs keep the arrangement laid back yet elegant. The long concrete table is sculptural enough to look beautiful even when not set for an alfresco lunch.

Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge

The Flat High chaise lounge is a stunning designer piece that combines thermo-lacquered aluminium sections in white, sand, anthracite and bronze with a 100% recyclable polyethylene sheet top. Gandia Blasco’s range of muted colours and textures ensures timeless practicality.

For contemporary settings we often turn to manufacturer Gandia Blasco. They are famous for their clean lines and crisp detailing. We tend to use a metal finish to add a little warmth to the mix.

We selected Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge for our Quinta do Lago Villa project, as the view was so spectacular, we wanted to keep the outdoor arrangement very clean.

We discovered early in the design journey that our clients had a love of art and sculpture, and an appreciation of furniture as crafted, designed pieces. We wanted to carry this vision into the outdoor space, which is why Gandia Blasco’s Flat High chaise lounge was the perfect choice for this contemporary project. View the project here.

SOMA by Indigenus

No outdoor space is complete without Indigenus’ SOMA planter. Made in South Africa with vernacular materials, their unique rounded sculptural style make these planters a special addition to any outdoor or indoor space – whether filled with plants or not!

We love the way the Piet Boon outdoor room in Tollgard Chelsea Harbour is coming together. The lounge area showcases the LARS series of sofa, coffee table and armchair. The dining table is the ANNE and is paired with the NIEKE dining chairs. Our Indigenus planters add some functional sculpture to this outdoor haven and are well-worth seeing in person. Come over to the green side!
